Minister of Health: Serious Irregularities in Security and Cleanliness Contracts within Hospitals

The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Amin Al-Tahraoui, revealed the presence of “serious and unacceptable irregularities” in contracts related to security, cleanliness, reception, and waste management in public hospitals. He confirmed that the ministry has initiated a comprehensive review of the conditions of service contracts to ensure service quality and protect the dignity of workers.

During his presentation before the Social Sectors Committee in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, Al-Tahraoui noted that “more than 70% of contracted companies lack efficiency and specialization.” He pointed out that some operate with capital not exceeding 10,000 dirhams despite receiving contracts worth millions.

The minister criticized the “humiliating” wages received by workers, which may not exceed 600 dirhams per month, while others have been deprived of their salaries for several months. He also warned of illegal practices within hospitals amid a lack of oversight and clear accountability.

To address these irregularities, Al-Tahraoui emphasized that the ministry has established a strict conditions document that mandates precise requirements, including specialization in the field, hiring qualified personnel (at least with a diploma after secondary school), and committing to timely payment of wages. He announced that “some contracts have already been canceled” after serious violations were detected.

The minister concluded by asserting that the goal is to “regulate the sector, protect the dignity of workers, and ensure a healthy environment suitable for both citizens and professionals,” stating, “We want serious companies, qualified employees, and an environment that respects everyone.”
