Luis Inácio Lula da Silva Expresses Optimism for Resolution of U.S.-Brazil Disputes Soon
Brazilian President Luis Inácio Lula da Silva expressed hope for an early resolution of all contentious issues between his country and the United States, affirming that bilateral relations are heading towards a thaw after his recent meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.
During his participation in the ASEAN summit held in Malaysia, Lula stated that he left the meeting with a positive impression of the U.S. President, expressing his conviction that “all pending issues will soon find their way to resolution.”
He clarified that Washington’s decision to impose tariffs on Brazil was based on “misleading information,” noting that any country has the right to take measures to protect its economy, “but these decisions must be based on accurate and objective data.”
The Brazilian president added that both sides agreed to hold a meeting soon in Washington to continue economic discussions, emphasizing that communication between him and Trump has become direct, and both parties have shown readiness to organize mutual visits to enhance cooperation.
Lula expressed confidence that bilateral disputes will be overcome in a few days, reaffirming his government’s commitment to strengthening economic and political partnership with the United States in a manner that serves the interests of both peoples.
The meeting between the two presidents took place on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit, a move that observers considered a sign of the beginning of a new phase in relations between Washington and Brasília.
