A judicial investigation has been opened by the Casablanca police department, under the supervision of the relevant public prosecutor’s office, to determine the circumstances surrounding a police officer’s attempted suicide after his involvement in a murder using his service weapon.
Preliminary data indicate that a police officer working in the motorcycle unit shot a woman he knew, who was with him in a private vehicle, for reasons still being investigated to uncover their true motivations.
When attempting to apprehend him, the suspect fired two shots, none of which injured any officers, before he tried to commit suicide by shooting himself in the head, resulting in severe injuries.
The suspect officer was transported to the intensive care unit of a hospital in critical condition, while the body of the victim has been placed in the morgue pending autopsy. Investigation teams continue to conduct inquiries to fully uncover the circumstances of the crime, which initial information suggests may be linked to emotional motives.
