The General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration has decided to permanently close the Ain Berja local prison in Casablanca. This decision comes following a technical report prepared by a specialized laboratory which confirmed that the building of the prison has become dilapidated and poses a danger to the safety and security of detainees, staff, and all visitors.
The statement issued by the General Delegation indicated that this decision is based on the report’s findings, which recommended the immediate cessation of operations at the facility to prevent any potential risks to lives or property.
Consequently, on October 24, 2025, the delegation emptied Ain Berja prison, redistributing the inmates to other prison facilities in a process conducted according to precise criteria that took into account the social conditions of the inmates and the capacity of the receiving institutions.
This measure is part of the policy pursued by the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration, aimed at ensuring humane and secure detention conditions, and enhancing the infrastructure of prison facilities in line with national and international standards in this field.
