Former Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki expressed his confidence in King Mohammed VI’s ability to wisely address the wave of protests led by “Generation Z” in Morocco. He affirmed that the Moroccan monarch demonstrated exceptional leadership during the Arab Spring, preventing Morocco from descending into the chaos experienced by other countries in the region.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page, Marzouki stated, “I have full faith and hope that King Mohammed VI will tackle this crisis with the wisdom he showed in responding to the events of 2012, which spared Morocco the heavy cost paid by the peoples of the Arab Spring due to the counter-revolution that temporarily thwarted our hopes for freedom, justice, and dignity.”
Marzouki pointed out that the current peaceful protests by the youth in Morocco signify “the vitality of society.” He called for positive engagement with this social dynamic by listening to the young people’s demands and continuing the reform path that has long distinguished the Moroccan experience.
He specifically praised Moroccan “Generation Z,” highlighting their commitment to three fundamental principles during their peaceful movements, describing them as the “three prohibitions” that reflect significant political maturity: “No foul language, no violence against the police, no destruction of public property.”
