China: Moroccan Idris El Hilali Elected Deputy President of the World Taekwondo Federation
The President of the Royal Moroccan Taekwondo Federation, Idris El Hilali, was elected Deputy President of the World Taekwondo Federation (WT) during a general assembly held yesterday in the Chinese city of Wuxi.
El Hilali received 81 votes among candidates competing for three deputy president positions, joining Jin Bang Yang, the President of the Korean Taekwondo Federation, and Athanasios Pragalos, the President of the European Taekwondo Union.
This election took place amid a voting process that saw the re-election of Chung Won Cho from Korea for a seventh consecutive term as the President of the World Taekwondo Federation.
In a statement, the Royal Moroccan Taekwondo Federation considered this election an “international recognition of Moroccan competence” and the leadership role Morocco plays in promoting taekwondo on both the African and global stages.
Ahmed Neit Lahous, Secretary-General of the Federation, affirmed that this election “is a source of pride for all Moroccans,” indicating it is the result of “continuous work, diligent efforts, and the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, in developing national sports.”
This election solidifies Morocco’s strong presence within major international sports bodies and enhances the Kingdom’s position in the global governance of taekwondo.
It is noteworthy that the general assembly was held on the sidelines of the Taekwondo World Championship, organized from October 21 to 31 in Wuxi, where the Moroccan national teams are participating alongside top international squads, reflecting the ongoing dynamism of this sport in Morocco.
