Bennali and Midaoui Launch Scholarship Program for PhD Students in Energy Transition and Sustainable Development
On Monday, a partnership agreement was signed between the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development and the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation, aimed at supporting a scholarship program directed at PhD students in the fields of energy transition and sustainable development for the period from 2026 to 2028.
The agreement, signed by Minister Leila Bennali and her counterpart Azeddine Midaoui, seeks to encourage outstanding master’s graduates to pursue their research in PhD programs through monthly scholarships for three years, benefiting fifty research students.
The program focuses on integrating Morocco’s national priorities in the fields of energy transition and sustainable development into scientific research and innovation policies, aligning with the National Strategy for Sustainable Development 2035.
Bennali emphasized that the agreement represents an investment in the future of Moroccan youth, stating that supporting PhD students in renewable energy, climate change, and green hydrogen is a practical step toward implementing the Kingdom’s strategic directions under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.
The minister underscored the need to train qualified professionals capable of leading energy transformation projects and achieving national goals in sustainability.
For his part, Midaoui highlighted that this initiative reflects a growing awareness of the importance of scientific research in keeping pace with technological and scientific transformations, noting that youth are at the center of this dynamic as they are the driving force behind all positive change.
The program will span three years with a total budget of 6.3 million dirhams, fully funded by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, while the National Center for Scientific and Technical Research will implement the program and monitor the benefiting students.
This project will enable the training and mentoring of research students capable of developing scientific solutions to the challenges facing Morocco in the fields of renewable energy, circular economy, green hydrogen, and climate change.
