A U.S. diplomatic delegation is currently in Dakhla to discuss arrangements for the opening of a new consulate and to activate Washington’s support for Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara.
According to Africa Intelligence, the American consular delegation is holding a series of meetings with local authorities in Dakhla to lay the groundwork for the consulate’s opening, in line with previous statements from U.S. officials regarding the enhancement of American diplomatic presence in the region.
In this context, Matt Poliss, senior advisor to former President Donald Trump, stated in a television interview that the United States is moving forward with its decision to establish a consulate in Moroccan Sahara, noting that this initiative reflects Washington’s vision in support of Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern regions.
Poliss emphasized in his remarks to AlSharq channel that President Trump reiterated the U.S. steadfast position on Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara and the necessity of finding a lasting solution to ensure stability and development in the region.
