Mass Withdrawal of Youth from Beni Mellal-Khenifra from the GENZ Movement Following Wave of Withdrawals Across Morocco
A group of young people from the cities of Beni Mellal, Qasbat Tadla, Fqih Ben Saleh, Souk Sebt Ouled Nema, Khouribga, Abid Al-Jad, Oued Zem, Azilal, Demnate, Khenifra, and Mrrir, affiliated with what is known as the “GEN2212 Movement,” announced their complete withdrawal from anything related to “GENZ212 Beni Mellal-Khenifra” on the Discord platform.
In a statement, the youth affirmed that any calls for protests following this announcement do not bind or concern them, explaining that their decision came as a result of bureaucratic decision-making within the platform, ignoring the opinions and proposals of the youth in the region, as well as the lack of support for the families of detainees from the area who were condemned without any moral solidarity.
The statement highlighted the weak public response to calls for demonstrations, in contrast to the involvement of minors and children in unorganized protests, and the absence of a clear vision and defined goals, coupled with a systematic exclusion of various ideological currents, transforming the movement’s demands from social issues such as education, health, and employment into antagonistic positions against institutions.
The signatories emphasized their belief in peaceful struggle based on dialogue and the avoidance of all forms of violence and vandalism, considering that the movement has deviated from its path and lost its connection with the conscious and active youth.
This withdrawal comes just days after youth groups from Kenitra, Errachidia, the eastern region, and northern cities, along with several Amazigh youth, also withdrew, indicating a fragmentation of the so-called Generation Z movement and a loss of the support base it once relied upon throughout Morocco.
