Donald Trump Welcomes Erdogan to the White House for First Time Since 2019 to Discuss Trade, Fighter Jets, and Global Crises
U.S. President Donald Trump welcomed his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the White House on Thursday, marking their first meeting since 2019, according to the German news agency (DPA).
The visit focuses on strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, discussing trade issues and military deals, including the potential acquisition of American fighter jets by Turkey.
It is noteworthy that Turkey was removed from the F-35 fighter jet program during Trump’s first term after purchasing a Russian missile defense system; however, the U.S. president expressed optimism last week about reaching a resolution on this matter, coinciding with the announcement of Erdogan’s visit.
The discussions are also expected to include current global crises, such as the war in Gaza and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
