Laayoune Sakia El Hamra: Over 2000 New Companies Established in the First Half of 2025

The entrepreneurial dynamism continues in the southern regions of the Kingdom. The Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC) recorded the establishment of 2035 new companies during the first half of 2025 in the Laayoune Sakia El Hamra region.

The Laayoune province captured the largest share with 1904 companies, representing over 93% of the total new businesses in the region. Following Laayoune, Smara ranked second with 68 companies, and Boujdour came third with 63 companies.

Distribution between Legal and Natural Persons

From the total number of newly established companies, there are 985 under legal entities and 1050 under natural persons, reflecting a balance between individual initiatives and corporate structures.

In terms of legal forms, the single-member limited liability company (SARL-AU) leads with 71.8%, followed by limited liability companies (SARL) at 27.7%, while other legal forms comprise only 0.3%.

Commerce at the Forefront

The commerce sector accounted for 43.9% of the total new companies, confirming its role as a key driver of the local economy, followed by the transport sector (14.8%), then diverse services (13.3%), and construction and real estate (11.5%).

Industrial activities represent 8.5%, surpassing agriculture and fishing (3.2%), hotels and restaurants (3%), information and communication technology (1.3%), and finally, financial activities (0.4%).

National Situation

Nationally, the number of newly established companies by June 2025 reached approximately 56,611, comprising 40,328 legal entities and 16,283 natural persons. The Casablanca-Settat region topped the list with 17,620 companies, followed by Rabat-Sale-Kenitra (7294) and Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (7203). The Laayoune Sakia El Hamra region holds the eighth position nationally, ahead of the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab region (1933).
