The Prime Minister, Aziz Akhannouch, chaired a meeting today in Rabat of the interministerial committee responsible for the program of reconstruction and rehabilitation of areas affected by the Al-Haouz earthquake. The meeting reviewed the progress made in various projects as part of the program, in implementation of the royal directives.
New data presented during the meeting confirmed the accelerated pace of work, with the construction and rehabilitation of 51,154 homes for affected families completed. The total financial support provided amounts to 6.9 billion dirhams, including 4.5 billion dirhams for rebuilding houses and 2.4 billion dirhams as emergency assistance.
In terms of infrastructure, the rehabilitation of National Road 7 shows progress between 35% and 80%. Additionally, 306 educational institutions have been rebuilt and rehabilitated, with work continuing on 34 more institutions and tenders issued for the rehabilitation of 186 others. A total of 103 health centers have been rehabilitated, 78 of which have completed their work, while 25 are in the final stages of completion.
In the agricultural sector, livestock and barley have been distributed free of charge to farmers, alongside the rehabilitation of agricultural and economic infrastructure. Projects aimed at connecting rural populations to drinking water networks have progressed by 52%. Moreover, rehabilitation work has been completed in 199 tourism accommodation establishments, representing 86% of the benefiting institutions, while 1,610 traders have received support and assistance for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of their shops.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized that these results are the fruit of collective mobilization and good governance, and that the program aims to achieve comprehensive rehabilitation of infrastructure and improve the social and economic situation of the local population.
