King Mohammed VI inaugurated the new fishing port in Casablanca today, as part of a massive project to restructure and develop the maritime complex of the economic capital, with a total investment approaching 5 billion dirhams, aimed at enhancing the city’s economic and tourism appeal.

The Secretary of State in charge of fisheries, Zakiya Driouch, confirmed that this port represents a strategic lever to support the fishing sector and implement the royal vision aimed at maximizing the marine potential of the Atlantic coast. She highlighted that it is part of a comprehensive strategy to enhance the sector through improved infrastructure and the development of fish unloading facilities.

The new port features a first-generation wholesale market composed of 15 modern units that meet standards related to the quality of marine products, thus forming a link in a national network of 64 similar markets. It will also contribute to supplying the local Casablanca market with high-quality seafood while hosting diverse activities including sardine fishing and traditional fishing.

Driouch added that the project has given special attention to traditional fishing, providing professionals with essential logistical means, including free distribution of product preservation boxes and the provision of modern life jackets, all aimed at enhancing maritime safety conditions.

In addition to the port, the projects that the king inaugurated included a new ship repair workshop, a dedicated station for marine trips, and an administrative complex housing various stakeholders involved in the Casablanca port.
