Jazz Festival “Jazz at Shala” Renamed to “Jazz in Rabat” Celebrating Musical Dialogue Between Europe and Morocco
The spirit of the “Jazz at Shala” festival is renewed in its twenty-seventh edition with a new name, transitioning to the heart of the capital as “Jazz in Rabat,” taking place from September 25 to 27, 2025, at the Théâtre du Parc Hassan II.
For three nights, Rabat will resonate with exceptional musical performances, interactive workshops, and public displays, solidifying the festival’s position as an artistic and cultural bridge between Europe and Morocco.
Organized by the European Union in Morocco in partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, and the Wilaya of Rabat-Salé-Kenitra, the festival continues to reinforce its image as a platform that promotes the values of cultural dialogue, revealing rich musical and human connections across the Mediterranean.
The program opens on Thursday, September 25, with a joint performance by the Thanias Gyanoli Trio (Greece/Germany) and Moroccan musician Abdel Fattah El Hassini, followed by a performance featuring Celine Bonasina Quartet alongside the Moroccan duo Hamza Benani Smeers and Idriss Negrara.
On Friday, September 26, the spotlight will be on a collaboration between the Alban Caritat group from Catalonia and the JazzIn Trio from Tangier, followed by a Hungarian duo Sara Policky and Petra Varaljai with the Moroccan band Chobi Sextet.
The festival will conclude on Saturday, September 27, with the Belgian trio Amo Trio and the Mehdi Qammoum Quartet from Agadir, culminating in a performance that features Lina Nyberg, an icon of Swedish jazz, alongside the Moroccan trio Bab la Blues led by Yousra Mansour.
In addition to these performances, the festival will extend into the public space with a musical presentation in the city center, along with two workshops: the first in Rabat on Friday, led by drummer Stéphane Galland, and the second in Casablanca on Sunday, September 28, hosted by rapper Chobi with participation from young musicians.
Jazz enthusiasts can look forward to this unique experience daily from September 25 to 27, starting at 8 PM, in an atmosphere promising a blend of creativity and cultural diversity.
