Signing a New Charter Redefining Professionalism in Moroccan Football
On Thursday, September 11, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation held a signing ceremony for the “Charter of Commitment, Ethics, and Governance for Professional Clubs” in Rabat. This event was attended by Fouzi Lekjaâ, the president of the federation, and Abdel Salam Bellakhdhar, president of the National Professional Football League, along with club presidents and sports company representatives.
A Break from Past Practices
In his speech on the occasion, Abdel Salam Bellakhdhar emphasized that this step marks the beginning of a new phase in the history of national football, characterized by transparency and good governance. He clarified that the charter puts an end to years of institutional vacuum, poor management, and evasion of responsibility, affirming that the objective is to enhance the image of the national league and make it more attractive for investment.
A Proprietary Vision and a Greater Role for Clubs
For his part, Fouzi Lekjaâ highlighted that this charter translates the lofty proprietary vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, who has promoted sports as a lever for development and a means to enhance Morocco’s international presence. He asserted that the achieved successes in infrastructure and national teams place a responsibility on clubs to double their efforts to enhance competitiveness and improve the league’s image.
Consensus on a Historic Milestone
The attending club presidents unanimously agreed that this meeting constitutes a historic milestone in the journey of Moroccan football, establishing a new era of joint commitment and solidifying the efforts of the federation and the national league to elevate the practice of football to higher levels.
