The Rabat Court of First Instance has sentenced activist Ibtissam Lachkar to two and a half years in prison and imposed a fine of 50,000 dirhams for charges related to “offending the Islamic religion,” on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

The case dates back to August, when the accused posted a picture wearing a shirt that included phrases deemed offensive to the divine, accompanied by a post attacking Islam. This prompted a judicial investigation and her placement in police custody.

The court based its decision on Article 267.5 of the Moroccan Penal Code, which criminalizes offenses against Islam or the religious constants of the Kingdom.

With this ruling, the court has concluded the first chapter of the case, while awaiting whether the defense team will decide to appeal.
