More Than 200 Million Bicycles in China
China is witnessing a significant increase in the use of bicycles and electric bikes, driven by a growing interest in low-carbon transportation options.
According to data from the China Bicycle Association, the number of bicycles in China has exceeded 200 million, along with more than 380 million electric bikes. It is noted that bicycles and electric bikes are now used for 30 out of every 100 urban trips in China.
These figures indicate a clear shift in reliance on transportation within Chinese cities, with rising environmental awareness encouraging many commuters to choose bicycles or low-emission alternatives as their mode of transport.
Estimates from the China Bicycle Association suggest that the use of two-wheeled vehicles reduces carbon emissions in China by approximately 10,000 tons per day, equivalent to saving about 6.6 million liters of gasoline daily compared to other forms of transportation.
