Morocco Participates in the “UNITAS 2025” Naval Exercises in the United States

Morocco is participating in the 66th edition of the multinational naval exercises, UNITAS 2025, taking place from September 15 to October 6 off the east coast of the United States. This exercise is the oldest of its kind in the world, involving around 8,000 military personnel from 25 countries, including Morocco, the United States, France, Germany, Japan, Canada, Brazil, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands.

The UNITAS exercise was initiated in 1959 and aims to enhance cooperation and joint operational capabilities among the participating naval forces. It includes maritime and land operations, cybersecurity simulations, rescue exercises at sea, live-fire drills, and amphibious operations. The drills primarily take place in the vicinity of the Mayport naval base in Florida, along with Camp Lejeune in North Carolina and Norfolk in Virginia.

Morocco’s participation in these maneuvers underscores the significance of its military relations with the United States and its strategic role in enhancing regional and international security. As the only Arab and African country involved in the 2025 edition, Morocco demonstrates its commitment to developing its defense capabilities and promoting maritime stability.

The exercise will conclude with a special ceremony commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States Navy, celebrating its legacy in safeguarding interests and promoting naval unity for a safer and more stable world.

This participation is part of a series of joint maneuvers and training involving the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces and the U.S. Army, most notably the African Lion exercise, which is the largest U.S.-led maneuvers in Africa, held annually in several countries, including Morocco.

Thus, Morocco’s presence in UNITAS 2025 reaffirms its position as a key partner in international military cooperation and a vital contributor to enhancing global maritime security.
