Morocco increased its imports of Russian oil to 188,000 tons in August, according to the International Energy Platform “Inco.”
African countries’ imports of Russian petroleum products rose to nearly 994,000 tons during the past month. Morocco recorded the largest share of these imports, bringing in approximately 188,000 tons of Russian oil derivatives, marking an increase of more than 50,000 tons compared to the previous month of July.
This notable increase places Morocco at the forefront of African demand for Russian energy products, amidst growing challenges in global energy markets, as importing countries seek alternative or more affordable sources.
In the same vein, Egypt doubled its import volume to reach 141,000 tons in August, while Tunisia’s imports amounted to around 127,000 tons. This reflects a growing trend among North African countries towards diversifying energy sources and opening up to Russian markets in light of global geopolitical fluctuations and their impacts on the energy sector.
