Morocco Highlights the Role of the Commander of the Faithful in Preserving Prophetic Heritage and Promoting Tolerance

Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, emphasized on Monday, September 22, 2025, the historical role played by the Commander of the Faithful in the Kingdom of Morocco, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, in preserving the prophetic heritage and promoting values of tolerance and dialogue.

This statement was made during his participation in a high-level ministerial event of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, commemorating the 1500th anniversary of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Bourita asserted that this celebration carries special significance for the Kingdom, as it reflects the Moroccan people’s attachment to the prophetic heritage and their commitment to advancing dialogue between cultures and religions.

The minister noted that Moroccan kings, as Commanders of the Faithful, have upheld religion as a bastion of justice, mercy, and solidarity, and have contributed to the global dissemination of Islam’s universal values at both regional and international levels. He added that King Mohammed VI, continuing the tradition of his predecessors, called for commemorating this anniversary in a manner befitting the occasion, issuing a royal message on September 15, 2025, to the Supreme Scientific Council, copies of which were distributed in four languages to United Nations member states.

Bourita highlighted Morocco’s international initiatives, including the Rabat Action Plan, the Marrakech Declaration, and the ninth Global Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations in Fez, alongside the role of national institutions such as the Mohammed VI Institute for Imam Training and the Mohammed VI Foundation for African Scholars in promoting the values of moderate Islam.

The minister affirmed that the Moroccan people, under the leadership of the Commander of the Faithful, demonstrate their respect for the prophetic message through their commitment to faith, performance of prayers, care for the Quran and Hadith sciences, and preservation of Sufi traditions, while rejecting all forms of disrespect towards the Prophet or religious discrimination.

Bourita pointed out that this profound commitment gives the celebration of the Prophet’s birthday meanings that connect the past with the present and ensure the continuity of values of compassion, justice, and faith within Morocco and on the international stage.
