Morocco and Mexico Sign MoU to Enhance Economic and Industrial Cooperation

The General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) and the Mexican Confederation of Chambers of Industry (CONCAMIN) signed a memorandum of understanding in Mexico City on Monday. The agreement aims to strengthen economic and industrial cooperation between the two countries and establish a strategic partnership in investment and trade.

The agreement was signed by CGEM President Chakib Alj and his Mexican counterpart Alejandro Malagón Baragan, in the presence of Morocco’s Ambassador to Mexico, Abdelfattah Labar. It seeks to develop new investment and partnership opportunities in sectors of mutual interest while diversifying bilateral trade exchanges.

The memorandum includes organizing joint exhibitions and forums, enhancing dialogue between economic actors, promoting policies that support investment and trade, as well as establishing a joint committee to follow up on cooperation projects and sign specialized sector agreements.

Alj emphasized that the agreement acts as a strong lever for developing economic relations and building promising partnerships in the sectors of industry, agri-food, tourism, renewable energy, and technological innovation. He noted that Morocco has solidified its position as the leading car manufacturer in Africa and a key player in the sectors of aviation, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and agri-food.

For his part, Malagón Baragan highlighted the complementary capabilities of Morocco and Mexico, considering the agreement as a solid foundation for building long-term cooperation, particularly in the pharmaceutical and food industries.

This initiative comes as part of an economic mission led by CGEM in Mexico from September 22 to 25, in coordination with the Moroccan Embassy, aimed at enhancing economic and commercial relations between the two countries.
