The Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Courthouse of Fes has ordered the detention of a police chief in the local prison of Burkaiz after investigations revealed his involvement in creating a fake Facebook account under the name of French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu. This account was reportedly used to disseminate posts deemed offensive to the constants and symbols of the Kingdom.
This decision followed the assignment of the King’s Prosecutor to the Fes Judicial Police to conduct a thorough investigation on the matter. Investigations and technical examinations led to the arrest of the security official, who has now been referred to justice in custody.
The court has scheduled the first session of the police chief’s trial before the misdemeanor court for Tuesday, September 9.
The accused faces several serious charges, including distributing false claims aimed at violating individuals’ privacy, defamation, insulting a constitutional authority, and insulting public officials while performing their duties, through electronic means that fulfill the criterion of publicity.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office also decided to submit his mobile phone for a detailed technical examination at the regional laboratory for digital evidence analysis in Fes, while investigators continue to gather data on the nature of the posts published on the fake account and the interacting parties, pending the outcome of the upcoming sessions.
