Massive African Investment: Launch of Advanced AI Factory in Morocco as Part of a $720 Million Program

Billionaire Strive Masiyiwa, founder of Cassava Technologies, has announced the launch of an advanced AI factory in Morocco, as part of a continental program to establish five factories across South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, and Morocco, with a total investment estimated at $720 million.

This project aligns with the implementation of the “Sovereign AI Cloud” strategy aimed at enabling African countries to have sovereign digital infrastructures, reducing dependence on foreign cloud servers while bolstering technological independence.

The Moroccan factory will be distinguished by its high-performance computing capabilities, utilizing thousands of graphics processors provided by NVIDIA. This will allow researchers, startups, and local stakeholders to develop and test their AI applications from within Africa.

This initiative is consistent with Morocco’s ambition to enhance its status as a leading technological hub in Africa, leveraging its strategic geographic location, modern infrastructure, and local competencies in innovation and cutting-edge technology.

The specific Moroccan city that will host this project is expected to be revealed in the coming phase, along with a detailed timeline for its completion, which is anticipated to span three to four years. However, the announcement has already generated significant interest due to its potential to accelerate digital transformation in Africa and strengthen Morocco’s role within this evolving technological landscape.
