Foiling of an International Smuggling Attempt of One Ton of Hashish in El Jadida and Dismantling of a Suspicious Maritime Network
In the ongoing security efforts to combat international drug smuggling networks, Royal Gendarmerie forces succeeded on Friday night in thwarting an operation to smuggle a substantial quantity of hashish in El Jadida. This followed a field chase of a four-wheel drive vehicle suspected of being involved in illicit activities as it headed towards the town of Ouled Ghanem.
According to press reports, Royal Gendarmerie units mobilized their human and logistical resources to carry out a sweeping operation that resulted in the interception of the suspicious vehicle, which bore Moroccan license plates, near the town of Sidi Mohammed Akhdim. A search of the vehicle uncovered a full ton of hashish prepared for international smuggling.
The seized quantity was transferred to the relevant authorities, and a preliminary investigation was launched under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office to uncover all circumstances surrounding the operation and identify potential suspects.
In parallel, specialized coastal monitoring units initiated a simultaneous sweep operation that allowed them to spot an 8.5-meter inflatable boat poised to set sail from the beach of Ouled Salem in the Sidi Aissa district. It is suspected to be the maritime means that would have been used to transport the seized shipment by sea to an unknown destination.
Additionally, a scientific and technical gendarmerie team was called in to take necessary measures while investigations and inquiries continue under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office, as part of the intensive efforts made by the regional gendarmerie command in El Jadida to combat international drug trafficking through Moroccan coasts.
