Fes Hosts the Finals of the Quranic Competition of the Mohammed VI Foundation for African Scholars

On Friday, in Fes, the sixth edition of the Quranic competition organized by the Mohammed VI Foundation for African Scholars was inaugurated, featuring 117 competitors from various countries across the continent, including 13 female participants.

In his opening speech, the Foundation’s Secretary-General, Mohammed Rifi, emphasized that the primary aim of this event is to connect young African Muslims with the noble Quran and encourage them to memorize and master its recitation and pronunciation, while nurturing a generation imbued with the teachings and ethics of the Quran.

Rifi explained that this annual event has become a platform for discovering promising talents in the fields of memorization and Quranic performance, considering the participants as the nucleus of future generations of Quran reciters and memorizers. He also praised the efforts of the heads and members of the Foundation’s branches in various African countries, who monitored the local qualification stages up to the finals.

The competition features three categories:

1. Complete memorization with recitation according to the Warsh narration of Nafi
2. Complete memorization with recitation from various readings and narrations
3. Tajweed with memorization of at least five parts

A judging panel consisting of scholars and reciters from Morocco and several African countries, including Mauritania, Nigeria, Sudan, and Tanzania, will evaluate the participants’ performances in person from Fes.

Rifi stated that this initiative is part of the scientific and spiritual efforts sponsored by the Commander of the Faithful, King Mohammed VI, and serves Islam and Muslims in Africa. He highlighted that the competition reinforces the Foundation’s visibility and expands its educational and scientific impact across various African countries by promoting Quranic education and disseminating its guidance and objectives.

The events of this edition will last for three days, featuring an online format that allows broader participation from the Foundation’s branches across the continent.
