China, Russia, Iran, and Pakistan Confirm Rejection of Military Bases in Afghanistan

The spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang Wenbin, announced on Friday that the foreign ministers of China, Russia, Iran, and Pakistan held an informal meeting in New York on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly to discuss the latest developments in Afghanistan.

Wang stated that the meeting, which took place on September 25, resulted in a joint statement affirming respect for Afghanistan’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, along with a clear rejection of the establishment of military bases on its territory or in the region by forces responsible for the current situation.

He added that this stance reflects a consensus among neighboring countries to uphold Afghanistan’s sovereignty and national dignity and highlights the common will of the international community to support stability in the country.

The spokesperson emphasized that China, as a neighboring country and a responsible member of the international community, is prepared to strengthen cooperation with various parties to provide necessary support to Afghanistan and contribute to efforts for peace and reconstruction.

This position comes as U.S. President Donald Trump recently hinted at imposing “severe consequences” on Kabul if it refused Washington’s request to restore Bagram Air Base.
