Change to Championship Schedule: Wydad vs. Union Yacoub el Mansour Match Postponed Due to Royal Army’s African Commitment

The National Professional Football League has decided to make a change to the schedule for the match between Union Yacoub el Mansour and Wydad Athletic, part of the second round of the professional championship. This adjustment was made due to the clash with the Royal Army’s match in the African Champions League.

Originally, the Wydad match was scheduled for next Sunday at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat. However, the league has moved it to the following Friday, starting at 8 PM, at the same venue to prevent any overlap in match programming.

This change comes after the Moroccan Royal Football Federation announced that the Olympic Stadium in Rabat would host the Royal Army’s game in the African Champions League, necessitating an adjustment to the local championship schedule.

Interestingly, the professional league had previously announced the scheduling of the first two rounds of the league before receiving the official programme for the continental competitions more than a week later. This situation has raised questions regarding the coordination between the African Football Confederation and national federations.

This delay in scheduling Champions League matches highlights the ongoing organizational confusion within the African Football Confederation, especially as several African clubs are still facing challenges in securing venues to host their competitors due to issues with maintaining local stadiums or meeting required standards.

Wydad, led by coach Amin Benhashim, must now adapt to this change in schedule, especially in light of their preparations to ensure a strong start to the season following their victory in the first round against Kawkab Marrakech.
