On Tuesday, Spanish club Girona introduced its new player, Azzedine Aounahi, during a press conference. The Moroccan international revealed that goalkeeper Yassine Bounou had a decisive influence on his choice, encouraging him to join the Catalan club and assuring him that he would find the ideal environment to shine. Aounahi stated, “Bounou knows Girona well and remains connected to it; he advised me strongly to accept the offer without hesitation.”

The midfielder added that his move to Girona was not a complicated decision but stemmed from a desire to enjoy football without any financial considerations. He remarked, “I felt like I was here with my family and that the atmosphere would help me grow and succeed.” He highlighted that national team coach Walid Regragui also encouraged him to embrace this experience in the Spanish league, given that the team’s style aligns with his playing philosophy.

Regarding his debut with Girona against Celta Vigo, Aounahi explained that he played 82 minutes instead of the 60 initially agreed upon with coach Michel, which helped him regain his physical rhythm after a break. He confirmed he is working hard to reach his best levels in preparation for a season filled with challenges, including La Liga matches, the Africa Cup of Nations with the national team, and the upcoming World Cup.

He also expressed pride in the praise he received from Spanish coach Luis Enrique during the World Cup in Qatar, noting that it remains a motivating moment in his career. In conclusion, Azzedine Aounahi confirmed that he has begun learning Spanish and intends to master Catalan later on to facilitate his integration with the team and the fans.
