The national athletics team is preparing to raise the Moroccan flag high during the 20th edition of the World Championships, scheduled to take place in Japan’s capital, Tokyo, from September 13 to 21. The national delegation consists of 30 male and female athletes, representing various disciplines and distances.

Leading the delegation is the star of the 3000-meter steeplechase, world and Olympic champion Soufiane Boucali, who has achieved historic successes in recent years. Alongside him is Fatima Zahra Kerdadi, the silver medalist in the marathon from the last championship, showcasing the strong presence of Moroccan women in major competitions.

Representatives of Morocco will compete in various races, ranging from the sprint events (100 and 200 meters) to the 400 meters and 400-meter hurdles, as well as middle and long-distance events (800 meters, 1500 meters, 5000 meters), culminating in the marathon and the 3000-meter steeplechase, which is considered one of the strengths of national sports.

This ambitious participation is backed by a proud history, as Morocco has accumulated a total of 33 medals in previous World Championships: 12 gold, 12 silver, and 9 bronze medals— a legacy that the current generation aspires to enhance with more titles.
