Barada Continues His Tour to Monitor Educational Institutions in Guelmim
In the context of following up on the implementation of the educational development programs and preparing for the new school year, Minister of National Education, Preschool Education, and Sports, Mohamed Saad Barada, conducted a field visit on Friday to several educational institutions in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region. These visits aim to assess the progress of the educational process and the accompanying measures to provide a suitable learning environment for students.
The tour included a visit to Bab El Sahara High School, where the minister reviewed the center dedicated to preparatory classes for higher schools, secondary education classrooms, as well as the accompanying facilities such as dormitories, libraries, and sports fields. The minister also visited Hay Chouhada Elementary School to evaluate the progress of the “pioneer institutions” project and the educational and communication activities within the institution.
In a statement to the Maghreb Arab Press, Abd El Majid El Sahl, director of the Regional Academy for Education and Training in Guelmim-Oued Noun, confirmed that the number of students enrolled in various educational levels in the region reached approximately 99,800, indicating that preparations for this school year began last season to ensure the availability of equipment, infrastructure, and necessary human resources.
El Sahl pointed out that this season is characterized by the generalization of pioneering institutions across all public elementary schools in the region, confirming the provision of all conditions related to the upgrading of facilities and equipping educational institutions. He also highlighted the social measures accompanying support for schooling among students from vulnerable groups, including school transportation, meals, and accommodation in dormitories.
Additionally, this school year witnessed the expansion of the “Second Chance School” program by opening two new centers, one of which is at the local prison in Bouizakarne, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 510 students. A preparatory center for the Higher Technician Certificate (BTS) was opened in Tan-Tan, and the existing center in Guelmim was expanded by adding a new pathway.
For her part, the regional director of the Ministry of National Education, Preschool Education, and Sports in Guelmim, Habiba Oubila, expressed her satisfaction with the generalization of pioneering institutions at the elementary education level, noting that 71 elementary institutions in the region have benefited. She indicated that the goal is to expand this model to cover intermediate education with a coverage rate of 41%, or 9 institutions out of 21. She added that this approach aims to enhance fundamental learning, combat school dropout, and support students in various aspects of school life to ensure a positive impact on their educational journey.
The regional director also mentioned that the ministerial visit enabled follow-up on several educational and communication workshops, as well as diagnostic assessments for first-grade primary education to evaluate the skills of children transitioning from preschool. She commended local initiatives led by teachers, such as preparing assessments in Amazigh, activating school life, and providing psychological support to students, especially during preparations for final exams, to help them manage the pressure associated with these educational milestones.
It is worth noting that the total number of students nationwide, for the 2025-2026 school year, reached 8.271 million, of whom 7.4 million are in public education.
