By order of Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Mariam, President of the National Union of Moroccan Women, the union has taken charge of the treatment of Ms. Iman, a victim of the inhuman assault and horrific disfigurement that shocked public opinion in the city of Taza.
Iman, a young mother, was subjected to a brutal attack just days ago by her ex-husband, who ambushed her in a public street and assaulted her with a knife, causing deep wounds and severe disfigurement to her face and hand, requiring nearly 132 stitches. The perpetrator, who had recently been released from prison, was arrested and placed in pre-trial detention on serious charges, including attempted murder, rape, confinement, and threats.
The victim has begun a specialized and gradual treatment protocol at a cosmetic surgery clinic in Rabat to repair the extensive damage to her face. She is also receiving social and psychological support from the social assistance team at the “We Are All With You” platform, a project of the National Union of Moroccan Women, along with mechanisms for social and economic empowerment and reintegration to help her regain balance and presence in society.
Iman’s case has reignited discussions about violence against women, prompting human rights and women’s organizations to call for stricter penalties and effective protection for victims, to prevent such tragedies from recurring.
