Akhennouch at the United Nations: “Autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the realistic solution to end the Sahara conflict”
The Prime Minister, Aziz Akhennouch, reaffirmed in his speech at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York that the autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco remains the only realistic solution to end the fabricated regional conflict over the Moroccan Sahara, within the framework of the kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Akhennouch explained that the Moroccan initiative has gained increasing support from the international community, with a growing number of countries considering it a serious and credible basis for resolution, thanks to the momentum led by King Mohammed VI on diplomatic and developmental levels.
The Prime Minister noted that this international momentum confirms that it is time to close a long-standing fabricated file in a manner consistent with international legitimacy and respect for national sovereignty. He also highlighted the economic and social transformation taking place in the southern regions, driven by the new development model and strategic royal initiatives, asserting that these regions have become a pivotal space for peace, stability, and shared development in the area.
Akhennouch concluded his address by emphasizing Morocco’s full support for the efforts of the United Nations Secretary-General and his personal envoy to reach a final and mutually agreed-upon solution regarding the Moroccan Sahara issue.
