Berrada: 3.27 Million Moroccan Students Benefit from Back-to-School Grants
The Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Mohamed Saad Berrada, confirmed that more than 3.27 million students have benefited from the back-to-school grant for this year.
This grant is part of the direct social support system, as a replacement for the “Million Schoolbags” program, which was part of the National Human Development Initiative.
Expansion of the “Schools of Leadership” Project
During the conference, the minister mentioned the expansion of the “Schools of Leadership” project, which will open 4,626 new primary schools to accommodate over two million students. This initiative will involve 75,000 teachers, alongside 960 inspectors, 1,000 guidance staff, and 360 activity facilitators.
Additionally, 6,000 coordinators have been trained for these schools, and 32,000 classrooms have been equipped with pedagogical materials, along with providing intensive support curricula (TARL Kits). The minister emphasized the availability of textbooks at affordable prices ranging from 4 to 12 dirhams.
Increase in Support Services for Students
- Dormitories: The number of beneficiaries has risen to 216,959 students, marking a 3% increase.
- School Canteens: The number of beneficiaries has reached 80,245 students, also reflecting a 3% rise.
- School Transportation: 683,244 students benefited, showing a 5% increase.
Preschool Education and Its Development
The number of children benefiting from preschool education has increased by approximately 42,253 compared to last year, reaching a total of 985,375 children in the 2025-2026 school year. More than 2,500 new classes in public preschool education have been established, aiming for a coverage rate of 85%.
In regards to the quality of preschool education, the minister affirmed the establishment of a “quality assurance mechanism” through the revision of the methodological framework and the intensification of training programs for educators, noting that:
- Over 5,000 educators have benefited from basic training.
- 3,841 educators received supplementary basic training.
- Approximately 13,800 have engaged in continuous training.
Children enrolled in preschool education have also been integrated into the “Massar” system to facilitate the management of their registrations.
