When the Palestinian cause becomes merely a propaganda tool in the hands of a regional project led by Tehran, solidarity loses its noble essence and devolves into blatant complicity. When thousands of demonstrations occur in Morocco in defense of Palestine, and the Kingdom is accused of betrayal, the issue is no longer with the occupation, but with those who have turned the struggle into a political bazaar filled with slogans for consumption.

Since October 7, Moroccans have participated in over 5,000 protests. A large country with strong institutions and a robust citizenry, Morocco has stood for decades as one of the foremost defenders of Palestinian rights, both diplomatically and at the grassroots level. However, Rabat has not been immune to smear campaigns led by paid voices in the media and politics, funded by the same entity: the axis of the Brotherhood and those orbiting around Tehran.

At the heart of these campaigns are media figures who have made a profession of incitement and duplicity. Among them is Mohamed Nasser, who thrives on scandals and sexual leaks and dedicates entire episodes to attacking Morocco, accusing it of normalization and betrayal of the cause. However, he deliberately ignores that his country, Egypt, has besieged Gaza for years, and that Iranian support for Hamas fuels the continuation of the war. He does not talk about Tehran’s silence when Gaza is bombed, nor about the closure of the southern border of the enclave, nor about the transfer of weapons from Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar towards Israel, nor about Turkey’s silence and its preoccupation with its economic interests.

He also overlooks that Morocco, despite its geographical distance, has sent aid to Gaza and raised the issue in every relevant forum. Documented positions that have been not only symbolic but also practical: direct field support and measured diplomatic movements. Morocco heads the Jerusalem Committee and acts without the noise of empty slogans. Those who attack him know this, yet they choose to remain silent about it.

Those within the Brotherhood channels see only what serves their agenda. They do not see Moroccan aid and do not hear the Gazans who have clearly stated: we are tired of you. Tired of Hamas, tired of the opportunists, tired of demonstrators who contribute nothing to our lives but noise.

The scandal lies not only in ignoring these voices but also in denying what Hamas leaders themselves say. Ghazi Hamad stated it plainly: Hamas’s capital is the blood of the Palestinians. Mahmoud al-Zahhar was even more direct: Palestine is not on our map, and our project is larger than it. These are not slips of the tongue but declarations of intentions. Hamas is not fighting for Palestine; it is using the cause in an Iranian project that employs death as a regional pressure tactic. Gaza is burning, but Tehran’s voice rises.

The question here is not for diplomats, but for those who raise Hamas flags in the streets of Morocco: Are you truly with Palestine? Or are you merely tools serving a project that sees the cause only as a cover for funding and negotiation? Did you take to the streets in defense of Gaza’s children? Or to settle scores with state institutions?

Why are you silent about Iranian funding? Why don’t you protest in the streets when Hamas steals flour and sells it for $100? Why don’t you condemn the onions sold in Gaza for 400 shekels? Who is stealing? Who is selling? Who is effectively besieging?

It is unfortunate that some of these voices only attack Morocco because it is a stable country. Because it refuses dependency. Because it does not follow behind hollow slogans. Whenever Gaza ignites, the mouths of the Brotherhood channels open against Rabat, against Saudi Arabia, against Egypt, then they return to their silence in front of Tehran.

No one is more supportive of Palestine than Moroccans. No one has the right to question the position of a country whose king heads the Jerusalem Committee and provides support despite challenges. Those who attack Morocco do not defend Palestine; they are advancing an agenda that serves a dubious project.

The issue is no longer just about confronting the occupation; it is about those who have hijacked Palestine and turned it into a project that feeds on corpses. Those who sold it in the name of resistance, while remaining silent about crimes in the name of sentiment. Palestine does not need someone to scream. It needs someone to understand. And someone to be ashamed.
