The American President, Donald Trump, has reaffirmed the United States’ complete recognition of the Kingdom of Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern regions in a congratulatory message sent to King Mohammed VI on the occasion of Throne Day. He emphasized that the Moroccan autonomy proposal is the only realistic solution to resolve the fabricated dispute over Western Sahara.
In his official message, Trump stated that his country “supports the serious and credible Moroccan autonomy proposal as the sole basis for a just and lasting resolution to this conflict,” a clear stance reaffirming the historic decision made by his administration in 2020.
This renewed American position delivers a powerful blow to the Algerian regime, which has expended its political and diplomatic efforts in a futile attempt to tarnish Morocco’s claims to Western Sahara on the international stage. Trump’s recognition, which has not been retracted by any subsequent U.S. administration, further highlights the isolation of the separatist agenda backed by Algeria and reveals the limitations of its diplomatic maneuvers against the legitimacy of the Moroccan stance.
In his message, Trump not only confirmed Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara but also highlighted the strength of the strategic partnership between Rabat and Washington, praising the bilateral cooperation in security, counter-terrorism, and expanding trade horizons, based on the momentum generated by the Abraham Accords.
The American president concluded his message by looking forward to strengthening this bilateral cooperation to reinforce regional security and stability, sending a clear message that Morocco is an indispensable partner in the geopolitical equation of the region, contrasting with an Algerian regime that has lost its influence and retreated into outdated slogans.
In this context, it is once again confirmed that the train of Moroccan sovereignty is moving forward, supported by historical and legal legitimacy, along with increasing international backing, while hostile parties remain stagnant in political isolation, exacerbated by the resounding support for Morocco’s claims to Western Sahara.
