The “White” Taxi Drivers Complain About Their “Red” Colleagues

- in Society

Taxi drivers of the “white” cabs in Casablanca have expressed their grievances about their colleagues in “red” cabs. They claim that some of their red counterparts have overstepped professional boundaries by utilizing numerous designated stops for white taxis to pick up passengers without adhering to professional market regulations, particularly after sunset when many residents are returning to their homes.

“Express TV” observed conflicts arising that required intervention from sector specialists, including “Kourtia” and fellow colleagues in the organization. This followed attempts by some red taxi drivers to pick up passengers bound for specific areas frequented by the white taxi drivers. Some red taxis even exceeded the allowed number of passengers from three to four in a bid to quickly increase their earnings, flouting regulations governing the sector, especially during peak hours in the economic capital.

Affected drivers have urged law enforcement and sector officials to regulate the field, as many red taxis are operating outside established norms. This is particularly evident on roads leading to the suburbs of the economic capital where demand for white taxis is high. These drivers face severe challenges from their colleagues, despite the fact that the law prohibits such actions. However, the laxity prevalent in the sector, especially during the summer season, allows many to encroach on spaces designated for them, risking conflicts that have previously escalated to local police stations.
