Peak of Moroccan Diaspora Return via Algeciras Port as Part of Operation Marhaba 2025
Follow-up
Operation Marhaba 2025 is witnessing a significant peak in its return phase, with Algeciras Port recording the passage of over 49,000 travelers and 11,000 vehicles last Friday, according to data from the city’s port authority (APBA).
This influx highlights the strategic importance of the port as the main transit point for Moroccans living abroad, surpassing the ports of Tarifa and Almería. The routes connecting Tangier Med and Algeciras remain the most utilized, accounting for nearly 43% of total traffic, followed by the Ceuta-Algeciras and Tangier City-Tarifa lines.
Despite the high numbers, Spanish authorities confirm that traffic is proceeding smoothly. The return phase of Operation Marhaba will continue until mid-September, a period that typically experiences the highest pressure.
Operation Marhaba, organized annually, is a crucial event that mobilizes significant resources to ensure the safe return of Moroccans worldwide and to guarantee their comfort throughout the journey.
