Moroccan Parliament Strengthens Partnership with Andean Counterpart in First Official Meeting with New President
A delegation from the Moroccan House of Councillors held an official meeting with the new president of the Andean Parliament, Sara Condori, following her election as the head of this regional parliamentary institution, succeeding Gustavo Pacheco, in the Peruvian capital, Lima.
The Moroccan delegation was led by the First Deputy President of the Council and its representative to the Andean Parliament, Abdelkader Salama. It included the Council’s Secretary-General Mustafa Mcharek, the Council’s representative to the Central American Parliament Ahmed Al-Kharif, and Head of the External Relations Department Hassan Azrqan.
During this meeting, Abdelkader Salama praised the distinguished relationship between the two legislative institutions, reiterating the House of Councillors’ commitment to strengthening the partnership and enhancing cooperation with the Andean Parliament, particularly in the fields of local and regional governance, and supporting joint initiatives of mutual interest.
Salama highlighted Morocco’s pioneering position in its regional environment, thanks to the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, and its distinguished political stability and rich historical legacy, making it a reliable partner for the Andean nations and a bridge for opening up to the African continent.
For her part, Sara Condori affirmed that the Moroccan Parliament has indeed embodied the spirit of membership observable within regional parliamentary groupings, noting its active presence since its accession in 2018 and its valuable contribution to fostering cooperation and exchanging experiences, especially given the significance of Moroccan experiences in various developmental fields.
Condori underscored the importance of continuing coordination with the Moroccan House of Councillors within the framework of multilateral dialogue and pointed out Morocco’s pivotal role in establishing the South-South Parliamentary Forum as a meeting space for parliamentarians from Africa, the Arab world, and Latin America.
The Moroccan delegation took the opportunity, in the presence of the former president of the Andean Parliament, Gustavo Pacheco, to express their appreciation for his contributions to strengthening bilateral relations, recalling his recent visit to Morocco and his meeting with the Bureau of the House of Councillors in Laayoune, which culminated in the signing of a joint declaration with Council President Mohamed Laaraj.
The Moroccan delegation, alongside the Moroccan Ambassador to Peru and Bolivia, Amin Choudri, participated in an official reception attended by prominent figures from the five Andean nations, including new president Sara Condori, former presidents Pacheco and Cristina Reyes, as well as members of the General Assembly of the Andean Parliament and representatives from Peru, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, and Bolivia.
