The General Delegation for Prison Administration has clarified the realities surrounding the implementation of the alternative sanctions law and promises to expedite its application.

In a statement released on Monday, the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration addressed certain misconceptions reported by some media outlets regarding the enforcement of Law 43.22 related to alternative sanctions.

The Delegation confirmed that, as the institution legally responsible for monitoring the implementation of alternative sanctions, it has been taking various necessary measures at both the central and regional levels since the law came into effect. These measures include equipping its departments with the necessary tools and appointing qualified personnel after subjecting them to specialized training, ensuring accurate monitoring of judicial rulings issued in this context.

The statement noted that, regarding electronic monitoring as a penalty, a national platform has been established within the legal timeframes, along with the provision of several electronic bracelets that will enable the Delegation to oversee the enforcement of this penalty.

As for other types of alternative sanctions, which require direct coordination with various governmental and institutional sectors, the Delegation highlighted that the timing of the law’s implementation coinciding with the summer holiday period did not contribute to speeding up the execution process, despite intensive meetings held with various institutional partners to establish the necessary contractual frameworks for sharing responsibilities.

The Delegation concluded its statement by reaffirming its commitment to intensify coordination in the coming days with all concerned parties, aimed at activating the anticipated agreements on the ground, ensuring the proper and comprehensive application of the provisions related to alternative sanctions law.
