The Moroccan Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration achieved a remarkable milestone last year, recording customs revenues of approximately 144.8 billion dirhams, setting a new record that reflects a 9.2 percent increase compared to 2023.
This performance coincides with a notable evolution in the operations of the customs services, which managed to reduce the time for customs clearance upon importation to approximately one hour and twenty-six minutes. This improvement has contributed to the acceleration of the processing of customs declarations, as 64 percent of them received “release” in less than four hours.
The annual report of the administration also revealed a significant increase in the volume of trade, evidenced by a 7.1 percent rise in the number of customs declarations, surpassing the two million mark for the first time.
In the area of combating fraud and evasion, the administration benefited from big data analysis techniques and smart cross-referencing of trade trends, enabling it to recover 34 million dirhams in evaded duties and taxes, compared to only 24 million in the previous year. Twenty million dirhams were recovered, while 14 million were collected through settlement fines.
The customs also relied on advanced economic analysis tools to enhance the monitoring of suspect invoices, conducting 64 sector studies that led to 336 reviews of value estimation indicators. This effort was complemented by continuous consultation with industry professionals, resulting in precise updates of reference values in line with market fluctuations.
