Rabat Prepares to Launch a Fleet of 120 Smart Buses with a Budget Exceeding 361 Million Dirhams
The capital Rabat is gearing up to unveil a new fleet of smart buses as part of a public tender announced by Rabat Regional Transport, with bids expected to be opened next September.
The deal includes the purchase of 120 urban and semi-urban buses equipped with modern technologies, with a budget approaching 361 million dirhams. This initiative is part of a plan to modernize the transport network and enhance service quality for citizens.
The contract will be divided into three phases:
- Phase One: 60 buses measuring 12 meters long with low floors, costing over 154 million dirhams.
- Phase Two: 30 medium-sized buses measuring 15 meters long with low entrances, with financial backing exceeding 91 million dirhams.
- Phase Three: 30 articulated buses measuring 18 meters long with low floors, designated for the busiest routes, costing around 115 million dirhams.
According to the specifications, the buses will be equipped with modern diesel engines that comply with Euro V standards to reduce emissions, along with advanced digital equipment such as electronic ticketing systems, surveillance cameras, Wi-Fi service, and display screens.
The contract not only covers the supply of the buses but also includes maintenance, training, and a two-year guarantee, along with a requirement for local integration, allowing the winning company the opportunity to manufacture or assemble buses in Morocco, thereby supporting the national industry and creating new job opportunities.
