More than 9,000 observations regarding violations by security companies in Morocco during 2024
The Ministry of Economic Integration, Small Enterprises, Employment, and Skills has reported the registration of thousands of observations concerning violations by security companies in Morocco during the year 2024, following 1,022 field inspections by labor inspection services.
These visits resulted in the identification of 9,160 observations, primarily related to wages, working hours, and social protection, alongside the drafting of 36 legal reports that included 28 misdemeanors and 64 violations against non-compliant employers.
The specialized authorities recorded 3,411 observations related to wages, of which 2,394 were linked to non-payment, in addition to 958 cases of minimum wage violations. There were also 786 observations concerning breaches of legal working hours and non-observance of weekly rest days and official holidays.
The ministry counted 346 observations in the social protection domain, covering failure to register workers with the social security fund, absence of insurance for workplace accidents, and inadequacies in mandatory health insurance, reflecting the lack of compliance by several companies with essential social provisions.
Minister of Economic Integration Younes Skouri explained that the security sector has witnessed significant expansion in recent years, necessitating regulation under Law 27.06. He emphasized the crucial role of the inspection apparatus in monitoring compliance with labor code provisions.
The minister noted that the social agreement signed on April 29, 2024, stipulated a 10% increase in the minimum wage, raising it to 17.10 dirhams per hour starting January 2025. He considered this step a foundation for achieving wage and social justice for security personnel, pending the comprehensive review of the labor code to address sector-related issues.
