Morocco has fallen to 61st place globally in the Internet Quality Index, according to the latest report from Global Index Speedtest, a global reference for measuring the speeds and quality of both fixed and mobile internet connections.

The report revealed noticeable disparities in network performance among the country’s cities, with Rabat ranking 120th worldwide in the fixed internet category, while Casablanca was positioned at 122nd in the same ranking.

Casablanca scored 85th globally in the mobile internet category, whereas Rabat ranked 88th, showing a slight improvement from the previous classification, reflecting a small enhancement in the network speed in the capital. In contrast, Lyon, France, led the global list for fixed internet speed with an average of 347.52 megabits per second, surpassing major cities such as Abu Dhabi, Valparaíso, Beijing, and Shanghai.

The report confirmed that around 97 percent of households in Lyon were eligible for ultra-fast fiber optic service as of early this year, according to the French Authority for Electronic Communications Regulation, which explains the city’s strong performance. Paris ranked 23rd with an average speed of 238.51 megabits per second, while France held the third position worldwide for fixed internet speed, behind Hong Kong and Singapore.

The report highlighted a decline in mobile internet quality in Lyon to 40th place globally, at a time when Qatari cities such as Al Rayyan and Doha dominate the top ranks, confirming that French superiority is primarily concentrated in the fixed internet sector.
