Morocco asserts its firm stance and relies on direct dialogue with Spain to define maritime borders.
Sami Marrakchi, Chief of Staff to Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, delivered a speech during the opening of the seminar “International Practices in Maritime Boundary Delimitation,” emphasizing the Kingdom’s commitment to “peaceful, direct, transparent, and constructive” dialogue with Spain, while firmly adhering to international law.
Marrakchi, on behalf of the minister, highlighted three fundamental principles: the protection of territorial integrity, commitment to international legitimacy, and rejection of any unilateral actions.
Bourita added, as conveyed by Marrakchi: “Whenever we face attempts to impose facts on the ground, our response is resolute, with full respect for maritime law.”
The seminar, organized in partnership with the Institute of International Law, discussed mechanisms for delimiting maritime borders and the practices of countries in this field, emphasizing that dialogue and cooperation remain the means to avoid any regional tensions.
