Merchants of the Al-Khabazat neighborhood in Kenitra demand the liberation of public property and the organization of commercial space

In a statement received by “Express TV,” sent by the Kenitra Merchants Association to the regional governor and the head of the municipal council, traders expressed their dissatisfaction with the deteriorating conditions in the Al-Khabazat neighborhood, which has suffered due to chaos and the proliferation of street vendors. These vendors occupy sidewalks and passageways, leading to the suffocation of legitimate commercial activities and transforming the area from an economic hub into a site of disorder and neglect.

The association confirmed that the promises made before Ramadan regarding campaigns to liberate public property and organize commercial space have not been implemented. On the contrary, the situation has worsened with the continued open occupation of sidewalks, often under the watchful eye or complicity of authorities. This reality prompted the association to warn of a worsening situation, potentially igniting tensions.

In an attempt to address the chaos, the leadership of Sector 14 conducted an organizational campaign met with violent reactions from some street vendors, who verbally assaulted members of the association, an act the association deemed barbaric, reflecting the depth of the crisis and threatening a slide into worse conditions.

The association demanded in its statement the actual liberation of public property, the prevention of any privileges to street vendors, the provision of legal and security protection to traders who have faced threats, and the initiation of serious and urgent dialogue with representatives of commercial actors to find sustainable solutions. It also emphasized the importance of holding accountable anyone who turns a blind eye to this chaos and obstructs efforts to organize.

In conclusion, the association called for traders to avoid direct confrontation with street vendors and to rely solely on legal avenues, affirming the role of merchants as economic partners deserving of protection and respect, warning that the persistence of the current situation threatens the continuity of commercial activity in the neighborhood, necessitating urgent intervention to restore what remains of order.
