Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced on Wednesday that 13 militants were killed and several others arrested during extensive security operations in Sistan and Baluchestan province, located in the southeast of the country.
A statement relayed through state television indicated that the operations took place in the cities of Iranshahr, Zahedan, and Saravan, targeting a group suspected of being involved in a deadly attack against police forces earlier.
Sistan and Baluchestan borders Afghanistan and Pakistan and frequently experiences clashes between Iranian forces and militants, some of whom are active in the region.
