Fes Joins the First List of Arab Architectural and Urban Heritage Launched by ALECSO

The ancient city of Fes has been included on the inaugural list of the Arab Registry of Architectural and Urban Heritage, alongside prominent sites such as the Old City of Jerusalem.

The list also features the Old City of Hebron and the Great Omari Mosque in Gaza, as well as Maghreb sites like the Zitouna Mosque in Tunisia, the archaeological site of Auzou in Mauritania, and the village of Tounin in Ghadames, Libya.

This new registry aims to highlight Arab architectural creativity, focusing on historic cities that have preserved their authentic character, as well as contemporary architectural landmarks that reflect the evolution of taste and craftsmanship in the Arab world.

ALECSO views this initiative as a crucial step in protecting urban heritage from extinction and preserving elements of collective cultural identity in Arab countries.
