China Reaffirms Support for a Peaceful Resolution to the Ukrainian Crisis

In a statement on Monday, China reaffirmed its commitment to a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, urging for a swift agreement that is “fair, lasting, binding, and acceptable to all parties.”

During a press conference in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning expressed hope that all parties involved would participate in peace talks in a timely manner, paving the way for a comprehensive resolution to the crisis.

The Chinese diplomatic stance welcomed recent communications between Washington and Moscow, viewing them as contributing to the improvement of bilateral relations and enhancing the chances of reaching a political settlement. Beijing stressed its support for “all efforts aimed at a peaceful resolution.”

This position from China comes just before a meeting in Washington between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, following bilateral talks that involved European leaders including Emmanuel Macron, Friedrich Merz, Giorgia Meloni, and Keir Starmer, along with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

These diplomatic maneuvers take place against a tense backdrop following last Friday’s summit between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, which did not result in a ceasefire.
