Authorities in Casablanca Launch Extensive Campaign Against Beggars
Casablanca has witnessed the launch of a new security campaign targeting beggars who have spread across mosques and main streets, as part of the authorities’ efforts to curb the phenomenon of begging that affects the public image of the economic capital.
Local sources reported that the campaign included joint patrols between the police and urban security services, which scoured bus stations, traffic signals, and crowded commercial areas, detaining beggars who have exploited begging as a daily source of income, especially with the onset of August and the influx of the Moroccan community from abroad and new tourists.
A source from “Express TV” confirmed that the campaign is in response to complaints from local and developmental associations calling for an end to these practices, noting that authorities will continue their interventions in the coming days to reorganize the urban space and protect pedestrians and citizens from harassment.
Sources also indicate that the campaign will include parallel awareness initiatives to provide social support to vulnerable groups, with some cases referred to housing and vocational training institutions, as part of a comprehensive strategy to combat begging in Casablanca.
