Bourita Receives U.S. Congressional Delegation, Autonomy Discussion Dominates Meeting
A delegation from the U.S. Congress, led by Republican Congressman Michael Lawler, arrived in Rabat today, Friday, as part of a regional tour aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and discussing security and development issues in the region.
The delegation began its visit by meeting with Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad. During the meeting, they explored ways to enhance regional security and strengthen the long-term partnership between Morocco and the United States, emphasizing the importance of moving forward with the autonomy plan for Western Sahara, according to a tweet from Lawler on his account on X.
Lawler chairs the Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa within the House Foreign Affairs Committee. He was accompanied by Brechtie Torres and several of his aides, reflecting the significance of the visit and the ongoing strategic discussions between the two countries.
This visit is part of a regional tour that included Italy and Tunisia, intentionally bypassing Algeria, as the delegation aims to deepen security and political cooperation with Morocco while keeping pace with regional developments.
